Masaba is well known as India’s youngest talent in the fashion Industry. She is the daughter of West Indian cricketer, Viv Richards and Indian actress Neena Gupta. She is a trained tennis player and was always keen on pursuing it as a career. However, her strong passion for dance and music led her fueled a love and passion for fashion.
Masaba graduated from SNDT Women’s University in 2009 where she was mentored by Wendell Rodricks. Her designs were showcased during her college graduation show who won awards and prepped her for the Indian fashion industry.
Masaba Gupta launched her diffusion line ‘Masaba’ in 2009 and subsequently showcased as a gen-next designer at Lakme Fashion Week. Her label is an amalgamation of traditional Indian sensibilities with a modern taste creating a unique contemporary line. The label works arduously with fun prints with the concept that less is more. Masaba has created designs and prints from everyday objects that have become huge trends in the fashion industry.
Masaba, which means princess in Swahili, broke into the world of couture at the age of 19 with the showcase at Lakme Fashion Week 2010. The collection ‘Kattran’ received widespread appreciation, critical acclaim and a welcoming response from the audience.
