Multicolour Lehenga & Pink One Shoulder Top
Did you find yourself reminiscing over the catchy tune already? Us, too! Ek do teenwas Madhuri's first-ever song where she displayed her incredible dancing skills and set the silver screen on fire with her thumkas and untameable energy. As much as we enjoyed her performance in the song we also loved how endearing she looks in this pink one-shoulder top with the multi-colored slit skirt. Fun fact: this film was her breakthrough film and the dance number made Madhuri Dixit a household name!
Kasta Saree
Regardless of whether you remember the movie Sailaab or not, we bet you have the song, Humko Aak Kal Hai Intezaar, and Madhuri's green kasta saree embedded in your head. This was a delicious folksy koli dance number which saw Madhuri Dixit as the perfect enchantress owes a debt of gratitude to not only her dance but also the attire, which has made it to the most iconic looks of the actor. The midriff-barring draping, the nath, green bangles, and layered gold jewellery went on to adding to the grandeur of the fisherwoman's look.
The All Black Disco Attire
Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit scorched the stage with song Tamma Tamma Loge from the movie Thanedaar. What also made this peppy number extremely iconic besides its dance moves were the funky hairdos, shimmery, blingy costumes inspired by the Disco era, and of course, the OTT silver jewellery that were in sync with the disco groove of the song.
Fun fact: It took Sanjay Dutt a whopping 48 retakes and a full day to master the chair dance routine.
Orange Saree
The sensuous and steamy dance performance not only made men skip their heartbeats and women go in awe but also earned Madhuri Dixit the moniker of Dhak Dhak Girl. And even the sultry low slung orange saree stole the show with its contemporary drape paired with a sexy backless blouse. The deadly swaying moves and the saree together made the song one of the most sensuous songs of Bollywood, ever.
Fun fact: Saroj Khan won the Filmfare Award For Best Choreography for this song.
Orange Rajasthani Ghagra
As much as we loved Madhuri's as Ganga - an undercover police officer - in the movie Khalnayak, what made this movie truly memorable was the song Choli Ke Peeche , the racy number which saw Madhuri Dixit as a village belle dancing to a folkish tune. Even after 27 years, it is hard to separate Madhuri from the orange ghagra, was styled with Rajasthani chuda and oxidized jewellery which made indegenous dressing a trend for years to come.
Purple Embellished Saree
Although the movie,Hum Aapke Hai Koun..! had lots of iconic looks, our favourite to date is still the purple embroidered saree featured in the song, Didi Tera Devar Deewana. The saree was a craze and so was she. As she emotes through dance and exudes playful expressions with her antics on the screen (remember the slingshot?), you simply cannot take your eyes off her.
If you have seen the movie Dil Toh Pagal Hai, you know what we mean when we say it was a sartorial treat. And since it was styled by the fashion genius, Manish Malhotra, we aren't really surprised. From the effortlessly chic athleisure and skater dresses to the lacy sheer chiffon kurtas, the movie and Madhuri Dixit set off a barrage of trends yet again. Our favourite look, however, was this serene white skirt paired with a modern blouse. It is elegant yet so glamorous and something we'd happily wear even today.
Embroidered Green Anarkali
In Devdas, we saw her as a charmer seeping into our hearts with fire and gentle passion in extravagant outfits like never before. The heavily embroidered green anarkali she wore for the song Maar Daala redefined sartorial luxe. We credit this movie for the trend of taking a heavy head dupatta over the head and for inundating our bijoux box with stunning opulent jewellery. Not to forget, the very Umrao Jaan authenticity it let to the mehfil.
Fun Fact: The green anarkali was later auctioned for a whopping Rs 3 crore.
The big Madhuri Dixit comeback in 2007, Aaja Nachle, was a film built around and showcased the dancing prowess of its lead star. We loved this beautiful black net lehenga with turquise blue embroidery that featured in the title song, too. Thankfully, the jewellery was minimal and the scene-stealing lehenga had it's moment on celluloid.
Golden Ghagra
Admit it, our hearts still skip a beat when Madhuri dances on-screen. And when she does so while romancing our favourite chocolate boy, while looking absolutely stunning, it's bound to make it to our list of iconic looks! Dancing to the tunes of her Ghaghra in Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani in 2013, the golden ghaghra with the black blouse and a contrasting pink dupatta, looked as ravishing as the star twirling in it.
Orange Anarkali
Even in a multi-star movie, Madhuri Dixit's Bahaar Begum managed to grab attention with her solo performance and enthralled the audiences with her precise moves and expressions. All this, while she dressed to impress in the vibrant orange embellished anarkali, looking like a regal queen.
