Welcome to our segment Quarantine Throwbacks, where we dish the deets on our favourite celebrity looks throughout the years - because, let's face it, even the mainstays on our best dressed list are at home in their most comfy pair of pajamas!
In today's segment of Quarantine Throwbacks, we are talking about Deepika Padukone's first Cannes appearance which was.... that's right, not in 2017 when the actor walked the red carpet wearing back-to-back international designers, but, in 2010 when the actor made her debut in a classic Rohit Bal saree.
Back when Deepika was not the face of the cosmetic conglomerate, L'Oreal, she attended the 63rd as the the Indian ambassador of Chivas Regal. Apropos to the brand's name, she, too, looked regal in Rohit Bal's white saree with exquisite gold detailing that is so noughties. Compared to her saree looks now - most of which are Sabyasachi - a lot is different. The pallu is pleated, the blouse hem a little above what is considered normal and the saree is worn where your low rise denim would have sat, back in the day. This, because of the actor's phenomenal, envy-inducing torso, looks like a million bucks on her, although, I'm glad we've left this style of draping a saree where it belongs; that's right, in the past.
Because 2010 had not gotten the less-is-more memo, it's understandable that the actor showed up with a stacked bracelet, a watch and an equally shiny clutch which didn't do much for the entire look. The lack of necklace did, however, provide some respite.
The one thing that has remained a mainstay in the actor's dressing-up repertoire is her love for winged-tip eyeliner, and rightfully so. The slightly darker nude palette works for her overtly Indian look, too.
Is this the actor's best look? No; but considering that we are comparing her style from almost a decade ago, and that this was the actor's debut on an international red carpet - this is worthy of being remembered in our list of iconic throwbacks.
Deepika wore a laser cut Rohit Bal saree in white and gold again in 2016 at the Ambani wedding, and this time, she rejigged the look with her signature dark lips, slicked back chignon and her sensational oeuvre.
