Aza is proud to have launched designer Suneet Varma's resplendent pieces from his latest collection, shown at the Lotus Make-Up India Fashion Week autumn/winter 2019, available for shopping on the website, www.azafashions.com
If we ever make a list of India's most venerated veteran designers, chances are, Suneet Varma's name will be in the top 10. A London School of Fashion alum, Suneet Varma launched his first couture collection under his eponymous label in the year 1987 after he returned from Europe, where the designer spent the better part of his time learning the art. His list of achievements is long and very credible. He is one of the very few designers to have apprenticed with European fashion houses - case in point, his work with Yves Saint Laurent, in whose ateliers the designer seems to have mastered the artisanal techniques of couture making with much prowess. His aesthetics are ambiguous which draw heavily from western art concepts and are perfectly fused with Indian design sensibilities - perhaps, this is what makes him such a hit with NRI brides who find solace in his creations which aren't overwhelmingly traditional, to say the least. One can find pieces made of organza in amazing fishtail silhouettes, velvet sarees with jewel-encrusted bandeau tops and even intriguing designs made of faux leather in his collections which are perfect for women who have that kind of sartorial daring and are unafraid to experiment. Many Bollywood celebrities including Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif and Bipasha Basu have been spotted wearing a Suneet Varma piece on one to many occasions. Kangana Ranaut, in fact, also walked the ramp for him in an Egypt-inspired velvet outfit for his 2016 show.
Having spent over three decades in the industry, it's safe to say that he's collaborated with a lot of other names in the industry; most notably, his collection with Swarovski called 'The Shining Star' - a roundup of the most ethereal crystal-encrusted evening gowns. His latest collab was with the jewelry brand, Confluence, where he designed dainty and intricate necklaces, earrings, and maangtikkas fit for use by the modern Indian woman - which is available to shop on the Aza website.
Speaking about his latest couture collection, we've rounded up sarees with shiny disco ball sequins, lehengas with his signature mirrorwork and anarkali kurtas with resplendent embroidery that are perfect for the festive and wedding season ahead. Even if you're an ardent minimalist, Suneet Varma's designs will make you try on his maximalist clothes. Shop the designer's much-talked-about newest collection on the website.
